HALL HONORED FOR HIS SPORTSMANSHIP
5/3/11 12:00 AM
(Hamilton, May 3)… Jordan Hall arrived in Rochester in November and made his presence known immediately, doing everything from teaching lacrosse, to delivering Thanksgiving turkeys to raising money for local charities.
On the floor, the Vancouver native also showed why he is considered one of the classiest players in the National Lacrosse League, recording two penalty minutes and 40 points (18+22) points and 58 loose balls in 12 games. For his professionalism on and off the turf, Hall was named the winner of the 2011 NLL Sportsmanship Award.
“If it wasn’t for the other guys on the team sticking up for each other, I don’t think I would have won this award,” said Hall. “Any personal award is nice and appreciated, but I would trade it in for three playoff wins.”
It marks the second straight season that a Knighthawk has won the award. Last season, Rochester team captain Shawn Williams captured the award. Hall joined the Knighthawks after being acquired with the third overall pick in the Dispersal Draft of Orlando Titans’ players. After missing the first four games because of offseason surgery, he was named the Transition Player of the Week five times. In his last five games, he had 10 goals and seven assists. In the East Division Semifinals this past weekend, he led the Knighthawks with two goals and three assists.
“Jordan was much more than we anticipated,” said Head Coach Mike Hasen. “He stabilized the offense. He was a classy guy that works hard from the get-go. He was a good team guy.”
Hall will attend the Hamilton Nationals inaugural training camp this weekend at Ron Joyce Stadium at McMaster University. Day One of camp is slated for 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 7th. The second day is a 9:00 a.m. start on Sunday, May 8th. The sessions are free and open to the public.
Hall enters his third season with the Nationals and fifth in the MLL and has won two MLL titles, capturing the 2008 title with the Rochester Rattlers and the 2009 crown with the Toronto Nationals. He was drafted by the Chicago Machine in the second round (11th overall) of the 2007 MLL Collegiate Draft.
Hamilton will open its season on the road on Saturday, May 14th against the Denver Outlaws at 9:00 p.m. The Nationals will host the 2010 MLL Champion Chesapeake Bayhawks in their home opener at McMaster University on Thursday, May 19th at 7:30 p.m.
